CHERYL and Gedd Donahue scrimped and saved for seven years to buy a dream motorhome – only to have it stolen just two weeks after picking it up.

The couple, of Lancaster Street, Barnsley, clocked up more than 1,000 miles in their search to find the perfect camper. And when they finally did, they even gave the £14,000 Fiat Ducato a name - Bessie.

They only managed one trip away in the motorhome before the thieves struck, taking Bessie from the outside the home of their daughter, Clare Beevers in Sandford Court.

Cheryl, 43, said: "I'm absolutely devastated, I just can't believe it. It had more alarms than the town hall but nobody seems to have seen or heard anything.

"When we realised it was missing we drove 200 miles up and down the motorway to see if we could see it."

The van is white and features a transfer of a mohican on the back.

Police are now investigating.
