DEARNE MP John Healey says that a number of local families are perilously close to losing their homes.

As the former housing minister, John has been startled by figures produced by Shelter that show how one in three working people in Yorkshire have no savings to fall back on if they were to endure financial difficulties.

Mr Healey said: "Thousands of Yorkshire families are living on a financial knife-edge, living month to month. Just one piece of bad luck could put the family home at risk.

"The Government needs to do more to help and should make affordable housing a priority."

Mr Healey is supporting Shelter's calls for the government to stop further cuts to the housing 'safety net'.

A quarter of people also claim that they would be unable to afford their home if they lost their income.
