UP TO 10,000 people are expected in Goldthorpe tomorrow for a gala organised by former miners.

Both the 30th anniversary of the start of the miners' strike and one year on since former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's death will also be remembered.

One of the organisers Mick Wood, 54, said: "We have people coming from Scotland, Kent and Durham and press from as far away as France."

As part of the day a march across Goldthorpe has also been arranged.

The march is set to start at midday from the Union Jack club to the Reform WMC and they will be led by the Sheffield pipe band.Members of the Banner Theatre Company from Birmingham will also be performing and there will be miners' memorabilia on sale.There will be numerous other activities taking place throughout the town.
