A SINGER songwriter from York has teamed up with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band to record a song especially for the UK stage of the Tour De France.

Alistair Griffin has written music used for various sporting events including the BBC's coverage of Andy Murray's Wimbledon win, The Open golf tournament and Sky's coverage of Formula One.

He has been commissioned by Welcome to Yorkshire, who won the bid to host the Tour De France opening stages in 2014, to write a theme for this summer's Grand Depart.

Alistair said he was a fan of brass and has been working with The Grimethorpe Colliery Band for over a year.

The track was recorded last week at the Chairworks in Castleford and the results will be heard all through the summer when the track is released.
