A LOCAL country pub has closed whilst it undergoes a major transformation.

The Strafford Arms in Stainborough has been acquired by Fine and Country Inns who, in partnership with Punch Taverns, will invest £500,000 in a major refurbishment.

The work will take six weeks and when the pub re-opens, 30 new jobs will be created.

The Strafford Arms is expected to open at the beginning of May.

John Laite, from Punch Taverns, said: "We want the Strafford Arms to become one of Yorkshires little gems that can provide a comforting country inn experience with a wide selection of drinks and a quality dining offering both for local people and the many visitors to Stainboroughs' incredible heritage site at Wentworth Castle."
