VANDALS have left a community group with a bill it cannot pay after burning parts of a public picnic table.
Members of the Trans Pennine Trail conservation volunteers were dismayed to discover the seating area, on the trail near Bullhouse Bridge, had been damaged less than a year after it was installed.
The group, which is a charity, now needs to find about £130 to rectify the problem.
The voluntary group has no income and hopes members of the public will help contribute to the repair bill.
Members have already received support from the company which manufactures the tables, Word of Design, which has offered to waive the delivery costs of the new parts.
