A GROUP of football fans raised up to £1,000 for different charities by writing a Barnsley FC fanzine and donating the profits.

Liam Dyson, of Park Road, Barnsley, and his team of writers have been nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award by Maureen Lovett, of Eastfield Crescent, Staincross, who said charities such as the Barnsley Hospice, Barnsley Cancer Aftercare and local foodbanks each received the sizeable donation.

Donations were also made for the provision of children's toys.

The fanzine - called West Stand Bogs - included various articles, cartoons and photographs about BFC which Maureen said were 'factual, humours and imaginative'.

A 2014 sell-out calendar was also produced showing photos of iconic local landmarks and the money raised was donated to charity.

Four issues were produced throughout the season and Maureen said it became so popular that others approached the team and were eager to contribute features.

Maureen said: "I am proud to nominate Liam and his team for an award and hope their efforts are recognised along with their individual and group pride in their town."
