The Silkstone teenager has been put forward in the Young Entrepreneur category of the awards ceremony by Liz Yoxall, a business advisor.

She said Thomas is definitely what could be termed 'a born entrepreneur' after setting up his website business 'Maskill Marketing'.

Liz believes he has a 'fresh take' on marketing, providing clients with everything from leaflets and business cards, to advertising campaigns.

"Looking at the websites and other marketing materials for Maskill Marketing, the average client would not be aware they had been created by a 15-year-old school boy from Silkstone.

"His innovation is in his young approach to business, he uses his age as an advantage to spot angles that the older, more experienced marketer may not have considered."

At less than a year old, Tom's business boasts clients ranging from a local Silkstone pub, The Ring O' Bells, to the RSPCA and Hoylandswaine firm Norcroft Electrical.

Talented Thomas, a pupil at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Wakefield, was recognised as finalist in this year's I Know I Can Barnsley Big Challenge Awards.

Liz said it was 'a great achievement' considering he was the only individual to enter the competition without the support of his school or college.

"His one barrier to business is his age, at 15 he is not legally allowed to register the business, preventing him from accepting certain orders for work.

"However this has not stopped him from planning his expansion from an I Know I Can competition into a fully fledged business and he is continually learning and gathering information," said Liz.

"On his 16th birthday, Tom will be registering the business and in the meantime he has employed a web designer and is now working with new international clients.

"He is also focussing on expanding his product range and in addition to this he is also starting to work on his second business idea, a magazine aimed at students."
