COUNCILLORS have granted planning permission for three wind turbines at Little Houghton after being 'assured' they won't affect the TV reception of nearby residents.

There were eight letters of objection to EDF Energy's plan off Park Spring Road, including concerns about TV reception and complaints the turbines were too close to houses in Edderthorpe, and Rodes Avenue, Great Houghton.

They will provide enough energy to power about 3,100 homes.

The land is designated as 'green belt' and can only be built upon under 'very special circumstances', but planning officers recommended the environmental benefits of the green energy were enough to warrant approval.

Planning officer Matthew Smith said: "The nearest properties are 750m away, and we feel this distance is sufficient to avoid significant impact to surrounding properties."
