A woman who donated a kidney to a work colleague is taking part in a bike ride to raise money for charity.

Katie Mason, 28, her twin sister Emma and Kirsty Booth, 19, of Churchfield Avenue, Kexbrough, will make the 310-mile London to Paris trip  in August.

Katie, a teaching assistant at Worsbrough Common Primary, donated her kidney to Samantha White, 41, in April.

She is raising money for the Sheffield Kidney Institute; Weston Park Hospital, where Kirsty's mother is being treated, and Diabetes UK will also benefit.

Emma, of Wilford Road, Athersley South, has suffered from diabetes since childhood and has to use an insulin pump.

Katie, of Kings Road, Cudworth, said Emma, an administrator, was the driving force behind ride.

"She cycles 20 miles to work every day and she suggested the bike ride initially."

Be Fitness Gym of Cudworth is sponsoring the trio and they are training there.

The group has a target of £4,500 and have currently raised £750. Katie said they are also planning a raffle, car boot and bun sales to raise more funds.
