World Cup and Premier League referee Howard Webb dropped into a Barnsley secondary school on Wednesday for a kick-about with some youngsters.

The 2010 World Cup Final referee, who was this week confirmed as a referee for this year's competition in Brazil, took a coaching session at Horizon Community College, Dodworth Road.

He is an ambassador for the SportFX project and took questions from the students on Wednesday evening.

He said: "The project at Horizon is one of the most successful that myself and the SportFX South Yorkshire project team have set up to date.

"The school has been especially helpful by providing such a fantastic facility for the kids to play on.

"We normally see anything from 60 to 80 boys and girls along on a Wednesday night and I wanted to call in tonight and thank them personally for their commitment and energy."

Howard was a sergeant in South Yorkshire Police but took a career break when his refereeing carer took off. He has returned to the police ten hours a week.

The SportFX project is a collaboration between the schools, the police and the police commissioners office, and Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA.
