Two members of Barnsley RUFC'S successful under 18s girls' team have received call-ups to the North of England squad but the team may have to fold due to a lack of numbers.

Centre Brogan Churm and second row Zoe Kayne were selected this week for the region's upcoming matches. Coach Chris Beck said: "We are chuffed to bits for them. We had nine girls in the Yorkshire team and to have two in the North of England team is fantastic. Brogan and Zoe now have a great opportunity to go for a career in women's rugby and they potentially could play for England."

The current under 18s have come through the age groups together at Shaw Lane and are one of the few teams in the country that can field a full 15. But more than half of the players will be too old from next season. Beck said: "The older girls can go on to play senior women's rugby but we won't have enough players left for a team. There aren't enough younger girls coming through. It is likely that the team will have to stop unless we get a lot of new players."
