GRIMETHORPE youngsters didn’t ease off on their English studies during their summer holidays - and received an award for their efforts.

Pupils from Milefield and Ladywood primaries were presented with certificates on Tuesday, having completed the village library’s summer reading challenge.

Staff from The Acorn Centre, where the library is based, were joined by Coun Allan Hampson at the presentation.

“They have all done really well and completed their task of reading six new books during the six-week holiday,” Coun Hampson said. “It’s great to hear just how much they have enjoyed it.

“Projects like this boost reading and spelling and sets them up well for when they return to school.”
