MAYOR of Barnsley Coun Jeff Ennis cut the ribbon this week on The Job Shop - Barnsley College’s new one-stop shop for careers information, advice and guidance.

The Job Shop at the Old Mill Lane campus brings together a range of support services for students and members of the public and will be working closely with the National Careers Service and National Apprenticeship Service.

As well as providing information about courses, volunteering opportunities and job hunting, workshops and drop-in sessions will also be held to help with applications to university, CV writing, interview skills and how to start your own business.

The opening event was attended by representatives from local businesses, Barnsley Council and other organisations and a talk was given by Ken Perritt, account director at XPO Logistics.

He spoke of the importance of preparing young people for work and the long-standing relationship XPO Logistics has with Barnsley College through a very successful apprenticeship scheme.

Jess Leech, assistant principal, said: “The Job Shop offers a wide range of really important services to both our students and the wider public and we are thrilled that it is now officially open.

“We are working with some excellent partners to ensure we deliver the best possible provision and look forward to growing the facility over the coming weeks and months.”

The Job Shop, at the college’s Old Mill Lane campus, is open Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5pm and Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm.
