A SWIM school is making a big splash with its fund-raising efforts.

The Deborah Yule Swim School, based off Summer Lane in town, has raised £10,614 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

The majority of the money was raised by the school’s pupils - aged from three up to teenagers - carrying out a sponsored swimathon.

They would complete as many laps of the pool as possible in their half hour swimming lessons and some pupils gathered as much as £500 in sponsorship for the cause.

Teacher Emma Barton chose Bluebell Wood as the school’s 2018 charity.

Emma said: “My friend lost her son two years ago to cancer and all her family do a lot for Bluebell. I’m close to them so wanted to help out too.

“In addition to the sponsored swimming, we had a raffle and one of the members of staff Kirsty Wild dedicated a week to baking buns for the cause too. It’s been fantastic.”

The staff will be taking on a sponsored sky dive for Bluebell Wood in July.
