IT MAY still be August but preparations are already underway for Barnsley’s Etsy Made Local Christmas Market.

This year will be the third year running the market has come to town, and traders wishing to be involved need to apply by the end of this month.

Etsy Made Local is part of a national event that will see towns and cities from coast to coast celebrating the makers and designers that make up the creative community selling on Etsy.com. Etsy is the online market place for handmade and vintage goods, and encourages people to look locally for Christmas gifts.

The Christmas market will be held at The Digital Media Centre on Saturday December 1 from 10am until 4pm.

The aim is to help the people of Barnsley connect with the local makers and designers behind the perfect gifts and encourage people to shop local. This year, Dragons’ Den victor, Claire Gelder will make an appearance, following her success on the BBC show.

She said: “I’m passionate about supporting the local creative business community and Etsy Made Local is a great platform to be able to both celebrate and help them to succeed.”

Steph Cronin, from The Crafty Business Network, said: “I’m thrilled that Claire is supporting the event this year, she is a huge inspiration to the craft community, so her endorsement means a lot. With her help we will be able to make it even bigger and better than before.”

Applications for traders of handmade products, homemade food and creative activities wishing to take part are open until August 31.
