Daniel Stendel says the Checkatrade Trophy’s Wembley final is motivating his team after they progressed into the knockout stages.

Barnsley beat Bradford City 2-1 on Tuesday at Oakwell to win Group F with three victories from as many games.

The head coach said: “It was a very good performance from my team. I am very proud of the players. A lot of the young players played very well. After Bradford went 1-0 up, we changed the result and it was deserved.”

The visitors scored early but George Moncur netted twice to win it. Stendel said: “George scored two times but I cannot say that just George played well, it was all the players on the pitch. Mike Bahre, Ben Williams, Adam Jackson and Jack Walton played very well.”

Adam Jackson was sent off for a second yellow card late on. His boss said: “It was a 50/50 situation. He tried to play the ball. But he played very well before that and we still won the game.”

Barnsley are now four rounds away from the final at the national stadium in March. Stendel said: “The first point in our head is the league but the Checkatrade Trophy final is at Wembley which is a goal for every player. We will try our best and see how far we go. I hope, in the end, we play at Wembley.”
