THE MAYOR of Barnsley has announced tickets are on sale for his annual charity concert featuring the world renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Grimethorpe Colliery Band is a British institution boasting performances at the FIFA World Cup, BAFTA Awards, BBC Proms, Eurovision and the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, together with a wealth of national and international television appearances, professional recordings and many competition prizes.
The band has also received two gold discs and a BAFTA nomination for contributing to the global hit movie Brassed Off - of which Grimethorpe was the focal point.
The Mayor, Coun Steve Green, said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming our very own Grimethorpe Colliery Band to perform at my annual charity concert. The band was first formed during the First World War and it’s incredible to think how far they’ve come over the years. We’re so proud of all the band has achieved and honoured to be welcoming them home. I had the privilege of watching the band during a rehearsal for the concert and I can assure guests they’re in for a real treat with an evening of top class musical entertainment.”
The concert will be held at Emmanuel Methodist Church, Barnsley, on April 15. All proceeds will go towards supporting the Mayor’s Charity, which this year is supporting Barnsley Hospice and BIADS. For tickets call 321 511 or visit the church office Monday to Friday between 9am and noon.
