A COMMUNITY store has celebrated five years of trading by unveiling its newly-refurbished premises.

Community Shop first opened its doors in Goldthorpe in 2013 with the aim of providing high-quality, low-cost food to people living locally while stopping good food going to waste.

To mark the special occasion and to showcase the new store, Community Shop hosted a celebratory event for members of the community.

During the event, members enjoyed refreshments with the founder and chairman, John Marren, and celebrated the impact that the shop has made so far during half a decade.

The day also saw the launch of Community Shop’s new branding and signage, as well as the first public screening of its five-year documentary film.

Titled ‘Dinner with John’, the film provides a first-hand insight into Community Shop’s life-changing work as told by people who have benefited from the shop.

John said: “We are so proud to have served the local community of Goldthorpe for so many years, generating a measurable and tangible difference that goes way beyond providing high-quality, low-cost food to our members.

“This special event also coincides with the refurbishment and refit of our new store, which will enable us to continue to serve and support all our members.

“We’d like to thank all our fantastic colleagues, members, supporters and industry donation partners who all play a part in helping us to deliver this significant impact.

“We look forward to building on the achievements made in the last five years.”
