POLICE are investigating reports of a violent hit and run on a main route into Barnsley town centre.

The incident, which took place on Dodworth Road at about noon on Monday, resulted in a man being rushed to hospital after he was run over by a car before being tossed into the path of an oncoming van.

No arrests have been made, police said, while the casualty’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

An eyewitness told the Chronicle: “I was driving up Dodworth Road and a white car exited one of the side streets at speed.

“A guy was sprawled across its windscreen and all of a sudden he went flying. This car went over him and zoomed off towards Townend Roundabout, while an oncoming van attempted to swerve but also struck him.”
