AN ELDERLY man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was involved in a collision with a car as he tried to load his boot.

On Saturday at 10.30am, emergency services were called to Melville Street, after it was reported that a car had been in collision with a 75-year-old man.

It is reported that an 83-year-old woman driving a silver Vauxhall Astra was attempting to park behind a Hyundai i10 on Melville Street, close to the junction with High Street when the incident with the man occurred.

The man was at the time attempting to load items into the boot of the Hyundai.

Following this, the Astra then also collided with a wall and the front door of a house on the street. The man was taken to hospital, where he currently remains, with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

A police spokesman said: “No one else was injured in the incident. Officers want to speak to anyone who saw what happened or who may have dash cam footage of the incident. If you can help, please call 101 quoting incident number 338 of June 29.”
