A CARE home has donated over £1,000 to the Barnsley Hospital Charity ion aid of a rehabilitation unit.
Dearnlea Park Care Home at Thurnscoe has donated £1,200 to support Barnsley Hospital’s Acorn Rehabilitation Unit, which provides specialist care for up to 14 days for people who need extra support and rehabilitation after leaving hospital. It has been recognised nationally for its outstanding results in getting frail and elderly patients back home and on their feet.
Omar Sharif, a partner from the care home, visited the hospital with his colleague Alex Stevenson, who manages the home. They handed over a cheque to Nicola Moug, specialist physiotherapist and unit lead; Jacqui Howarth, service manager of RightCare Barnsley, and Jane Mills, charity development manager for Barnsley Hospital Charity.
Omar said Dearnlea Park had worked very closely with the local NHS to provide intermediate care for the elderly. This had allowed it to support and care for a great number of people.
“As part of our core values at Dearnlea Park, we believe in supporting people who require care regardless of whether or not they are in the care of our home. To fulfil these values, we actively seek opportunities allowing us to give back to the community around us,” he said.
“As a token of gratitude we feel that support should be given to Barnsley Hospital as it plays an imperative role in caring for our residents and the wider community. In light of this we decided to donate £1,200 to the Barnsley Hospital Charity for the Acorn Unit that specifically supports the elderly. We hope that our gratitude is felt throughout the unit and would like to thank the Barnsley Hospital Charity for helping to facilitate our donation.”
