A WOMAN who has spent the last three years raising funds for a variety of charities has generated £804 for Barnsley Hospital.

Emma Gibson, of Upper Forest Road, Athersley North, organised a sponsored walk which began at The Eastfield Arms at Staincross and went through Monk Bretton, Lundwood and Cudworth before ending in Shafton.

The group of seven - which was made up of Emma and her friends kitted out in army-style fancy dress - saw them go back from Shafton to Staincross, covering about 20 kilometres.

The money will be split between the hospital’s chemotherapy ward and the Tiny Hearts Appeal. Emma said she chose these charities as her auntie, Judith Booth, died from cancer 14 years ago and her friend Natalie Shephard gave birth to her daughter 28 weeks early nearly three years ago.

Emma, 36, has previously raised funds for Barnsley Hospital’s chemotherapy ward, Little Fox’s Cancer Charity and Children In Need.

She said: “I just thought I could do with a challenge in life and I always feel happier when I help others out. It would be nice to think my auntie could look down on me and be proud.”
