Former Barnsley FC star Scott Jones made 144 as Penistone secured promotion from Division Four with victory over Darfield 2nd XI who had another ex-Red Jon Parkin opening their batting.

Jones hit 18 fours and four sixes from his 108 balls in Penistone’s 248, with Peter Clayton taking four wickets. Jack Meek then took six wickets as Darfield were bowled out for 157 with Parkin making 24. Penistone are guaranteed one of the promotion places while they are 12 points clear at the top.

They are now due to play in the President’s Trophy final on Sunday.  Captain John Williams said: “We’re very pleased. “The aim this season was to get promoted and go far in a cup, so we have done that.  “If we were to win the league and the cup, that would be an amazing season.

“Scott Jones has been unbelievable for us.  “He’s chasing 1,000 runs for the season and it’s like he’s playing a different game to the rest of us. “Next season, we’ll be hoping to compete at the top end of Division Three.”
