A WOMAN from Barnsley will appear on the new series of Take Me Out in hopes of finding romance and a shot at a date on the mysterious Isle of Fernandos.

Shannon Vardy, 24, will appear on the show, hosted by Paddy McGuinness, alongside 29 other singletons who are vying for the attentions of a mystery man.

The girls will keep their light on if they are interested or turn it off if they aren’t, and the last woman left with her light on wins the chance at a date on the ‘Isle of Fernandos’, Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife.

She said: “I decided to go on the show because I was fed up of being single. All my other friends are in relationships and when I would go out I would always be the third wheel. I’d not really had any luck finding anyone so I thought ‘why not’ and applied for the show.

“I’ve always been quite outgoing,” she added. “People who know me know that I don’t care what anyone thinks of me so I just went in and was myself. I don’t really have a ‘type’ in men so I went in just hoping to have fun and maybe meet someone.”

Shannon appeared on the first episode of the new series, which was filmed over a year ago, and says she has found friends for life in the other ‘flirty thirty’ members.

“The girls were lovely. Obviously because we were away from home for a long time, we all banded together and helped each other out.

“While I was on the show Paddy gave me the nickname ‘Barnsley Girl’ which has sort of stuck. I was shopping in Barnsley the other day and someone pointed at me and said ‘look, it’s Barnsley Girl’ and I thought it was great. Everyone has been so supportive and kind - I’ve not had any negative comments and honestly it was the best experience.”

Shannon hopes to encourage other people to step out of their comfort zones to do the things that they want to do.

“I want people to know that it’s fun to do something like that and not to feel embarrassed. It’s so fun and a confidence boost.”

Take Me Out airs on November 2 at 7.15pm on ITV.
