MAYOR of Barnsley Coun Pauline Markham will lead the town centre’s Remembrance event on Sunday.

She will be joined by veterans and representatives from serving organisations, the emergency services and other local organisations from 11am.

The Barnsley Metropolitan Band and Barnsley Singers will be performing before and during the service, which takes place at the war memorial outside the town hall.

She said: “I am very honoured to be leading this year’s Remembrance service as we pay tribute to all the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“Everyone is welcome to attend the service and it would be wonderful to see as many Barnsley residents as possible come together in honour of our services who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.”

On Monday, there will be an Armistice Day service for local schools and Barnsley College at the war memorial from 11am.
