STUDENTS at Barnsley College were given a talk by a finalist from the BBC One series The Apprentice as part of a campaign to promote enterprise and entrepreneurship.
The talk was part of Global Entrepreneurship Week in which the students took part in a range of activities and workshops. Khadija Kalifa, BBC One’s The Apprentice finalist and entrepreneur, spoke to the students about the importance of a driving force when setting up a business, persevering when overcoming obstacles and maintaining focus.
Khadija said: “It’s scary in the big wide world and young adults are expected to take accountability for themselves from this point on in their lives, which is why I like to give my advice and guide them on the right path.
“I’ve really enjoyed speaking to the students, they’re full of personality and that’s so important in the corporate world.
“They can really monetise this, as long as they stay true to themselves.”
Students heard a range of other guest speakers throughout the week including Dr William Baldry from Courageous and Sam Widdowson from Charles Tyrwhitt.
Harry Scott, 19, a level 3 sports student, said: “I’ve attended a few seminars this week and found them really interesting. Global Entrepreneurship Week has definitely been helpful for my studies.”
The week was led by Barnsley College’s Enterprise Team as part of their initiative to bridge the gap between education and employment.
Students widened their knowledge on personal branding, networking, self-discipline and business start-up.
