A HGV driver from Barnsley caused a fatal crash by ‘stopping in a dangerous spot’ after missing his turn off, a court was told this week.
John Robinson, 24, died when his Ford Fusion ploughed into the back of Marcel Balan’s lorry on the A19, near Washington, Tyne and Wear, on March 12.
The 57-year-old, of Cope Street, denies causing death by dangerous driving.
Prosecutor Mark Giuliani told the jury at Newcastle Crown Court that Balan had stopped because he missed his exit for the A1231 and was ‘about to reverse’ to rectify his mistake when the collision occurred.
The trial, which is due to end next week, continues.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
