The M1 has been closed in by police following a serious crash this morning leading to traffic chaos across town.
The southbound carriageway has been disrupted between junction 36 at Tankersley and J35A since 5.40am.
Traffic stuck between the junctions is being turned around with more than half-a-mile to be turned around, according to Highways England.
Traffic is being diverted off the motorway via the A61 and A616, drivers are expected to face disruption with queues building across Barnsley.
Traffic on the M1 is currently queuing about five miles back to junction 38 at Haigh.
