RESIDENTS at a care home in Barnsley have been getting to grips with ‘bringing in the pints’ at their very own pub.

Galtee More Residential Home, in Doncaster Road, has its residents enjoying a pint or playing a game of cards in The Stumble Inn.

The home, which is run by manager Carole Gooder, had a bar fitted by students from Barnsley College in October last year, with residents being able to ‘pull a pint’ and enjoy their favourite tipple.

“Our residents absolutely love it,” said Carol.

“It’s like a pub and there’s a little table next to it for them to sit at.

“They called it The Stumble Inn which is a great name and it fits it well. We are really proud of it and it’s great to have something like this here.

“They really enjoy being there and at Christmas time they loved having a Baileys at the bar or a fancy coffee with Baileys in it.”

Carole, who has worked at Galtee More for 27 years and recently won an award for residential care manager at The Best of Barnsley Dementia Care Awards 2020, said the home works with Barnsley College and has students come in to do work experience or placements.

“It’s great to have a good relationship with them and they do a lot for us and we like to have students here experiencing what we do.

“We’re like one big family here at Galtee More.”
