A BEAUTICIAN is continuing her campaign to increase the number of women going for their smear tests by offering a free beauty treatment.
Anita Hughes, who owns Simply Vintage Beauty at The Vintage Caravan in Welland Crescent, Elsecar, started offering free 30-minute facials to women who proved to her they had either booked in or been for their smear test around two years ago.
Her work even meant she was nominated for a Proud of Barnsley award last year.
The 47-year-old has launched her campaign again for this year and said she wants to help raise the numbers for smear tests, as even with her beauty offer, she still doesn’t believe enough women are going.
“There’s still that taboo around smear tests,” said Anita. “Even now, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of women going for them but they are so important.”

We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
