A MOTORIST caught under the influence of drugs has been ordered to pay more than £500 and disqualified from driving.
Luke Pickering, 25, of Shield Avenue, Worsbrough, was found to have both cocaine and THC - the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis - in his system when he was caught on Dearne Valley Parkway on April 7 of last year.
Pickering pleaded guilty to the two charges when he appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, changing his original plea from the previous day.
He was ordered to pay costs of £300, fines of £200 and victim surcharge of £32, and was also disqualified for 12 months.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
