A DISABLED man has issued a plea for motorists to stop parking inconsiderately - after claiming their behaviour is forcing mobility scooter users onto busy roads.
Mark Ravenhill, of Spring Grove, Carlton, suffers from cerebral palsy and has complained over the ‘needless danger’ parked cars pose to him while out on his travels.
The 35-year-old told the Chronicle: “It’s something I’ve thought about for a while as I often see that there are parking problems across Barnsley, but these motorists just don’t appreciate the issues they cause to disabled people who need to use footpaths.
“It just isn’t safe to go on the roads as it’s dangerous, especially so when you’re using a mobility scooter to maintain independence. It’s about time more was done to stop it.”
An impasse was reached when the council and police discussed Carlton’s parking woes at recent crime meetings, with both organisations saying the other was responsible for enforcement.
However, PCSOs will be prowling streets affected and confirmed they will warn motorists if the gap is not wide enough for a pushchair or a mobility scooter.
“All disabled people want is for motorists to be more considerate,” Mark added.
