TRIBUTES have been paid this week to several people who died due to coronavirus.

John Stead, from Wath, died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Called a ‘fantastic character’, John’s son Luke Stead plays in Wath RUFC’s first team.

In a statement on Facebook, the club said: “Obviously things have been tough for everyone recently, but then you hear news that brings it a lot closer to home.

“Our thoughts are with current first team player Luke Stead but also with his family Fay, Natasha, Chris and Chris’ son Daniel and daughter Hannah.”

Martin Riley, from Goldthorpe, died on Friday afternoon.

He played darts for local pub The New Bank in the Wombwell and District 701 Darts League.

Local football team Worsbrough Bridge said they were ‘saddened to hear of the untimely passing’ of former player Darren Lunn, who represented the club in the 1980s and 90s, on Wednesday.
