A MAN and a woman were charged yesterday evening in connection with the death of Stephen Riley.

Emergency services were called to Darley Avenue, in Athersley, at around 11pm on Friday, following reports that Mr Riley was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital but died in the early hours of Saturday morning - a post-mortem examination concluded that he died as a result of a stab wound to his chest.

Martyn Wilson, 37, of Monsal Crescent has been charged with murder and Julie Evans, 40, also of Monsal Crescent, has been charged with assisting an offender.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court this morning.
