A TEENAGER is celebrating after winning a category in the first online global dance competition.

Chloe Street, 14, entered the IDTA Global Lockdance Festival which was organised to help bring people across the world together through dance as most competitions have been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.

Chloe has danced since she was five years old and trains at the Lisa J Wood School of Dance, on Sheffield Road.

“She doesn’t stop,” said Chloe’s mum, Jackie Dixon, 42. “She does ballroom and Latin, sequence dancing, cheer dance... she dances all the time.”

Chloe sent entered videos of her dancing to the global competition, which saw almost 1,700 people take part from nine countries.

She was announced as the winner of the Tango Serida category on Friday - the first person to win the category.

“We couldn’t believe it when her dance teacher phoned us up to tell us that Chloe had won,” said Jackie, of Folly Way, Monk Bretton. “She works so hard all the time, and has turned the kitchen into a mini dance studio so I think it was great to see her hard work pay off.

“All the dance competitions she would usually go to have been cancelled this year so this competition was a great way for her to keep dancing and to grow her skills.

“I am really proud of her,” added Jackie. “She came second in another category and I think this will really boost her confidence and inspire her to keep dancing.”
