INCREASED town centre police patrols have been promised in an effort to stamp out rising antisocial behaviour during the lockdown period.

Issues reported by the public include drug and alcohol abuse, with officers focusing their efforts on areas including Mandela Gardens and the backs of shops on Peel Street.

A spokesman for the town centre’s policing team said: “We are focusing on antisocial behaviour including drug and alcohol misuse at hotspot locations.

“The public can be reassured we’re patrolling more as a result of complaints.”
