DONATIONS pledged to help the victim of a VE Day mugging has been returned after the victim could not accept the £3,000 raised in his honour.
The money was for Sri Lankan man Rajitkumar Sothilingham, 41, who was attacked while walking down the Victorian Arcade in the town centre on May 8.
It was to help buy Rajitkumar another phone to replace the one stolen, however complications soon arose after it was discovered he is a refugee and the money could jeopardise his weekly allowance.
All the money has since been returned to donators after no solution could be found.
