A MAJOR £1m refurbishment of a Barnsley industrial unit has been completed.

Overseas investors bought J38 Industrial Estate at Darton, which includes 215,000 sq ft of space across 16-acres, in April 2017. The estate includes major local employer Premdor.

The £950,000 work on the nearby Unit 3a, which included demolition to create a much larger yard for external loading, over cladding and internal fit out, has now been finished.

Helen Macrow, director of asset management at South Street Capital which manages the scheme, said: “This is a significant investment to bring this unit up to a quality standard at a time when the market is severely depleted of stock.”

Knight Frank, a firm involved in the marketing of the estate said South Street Capital had ‘invested heavily’ in the estate to improve the quality of the accommodation available.( Tom Goode from Knight Frank added: “There is a shortage of good quality accommodation available in the market at present in both South and West Yorkshire and this good quality accommodation will satisfy the pent-up demand.”

Current tenants on the industrial estate, which features CCTV and a barrier entry system, include Premdor Crosby, Rightcast and Thyssenkrupp Materials.
