Ben Williams ‘fits the profile’ of Valerien Ismael’s Barnsley team but the left-back is unlikely to play this season.

The 21-year-old – who has played 36 Reds games – has been out since August with a knee injury but returned to running outside last week.

Ismael told the Chronicle: “He has worked very hard in the gym. He has become a beast.

“I think now the next step is his recovery on the pitch.

“There is still a long way to go for him but it is a positive sign to see him out of the gym and running.

“Ben has a very good profile for the way to play football for Barnsley.

“When he comes back it will be a great moment for him and the team.

“We will focus on the new season and if it happens before it will be a gift for him.

“But we don’t want to put pressure on him to be back this season.

“He has to be 100 per cent, we don’t have time to make a pre-season for him.”
