A BARNSLEY author renowned for her romantic fiction novels came out on top at a prestigious national awards.

Author Milly Johnson won at this year’s Romantic Novel Awards (RNA), held by the Romantic Novelists’ Association on Monday.
( Milly beat nine other finalists with her novel, My One True North, winning the contemporary romantic novel category.
( The book is centred around characters Pete and Laurie who meet in a grief counselling group and an unexpected friendship develops.

Milly said: “This book was written without knowing that soon I would be travelling in the footsteps of my own characters dealing with their grief, as I lost my father just after I had completed it which is why it was dedicated to him.
( “I’m so incredibly chuffed to have won this award at a time like this. It’s such a personal book to me so it was incredibly unexpected to win.

“I’m really thankful that it’s been recognised and received so well.”

The judges said of Milly’s winning novel: “An absolutely fabulous page turner of a read. Just the right amount of everything. We loved this book.
( “Milly’s life, like her writing, shows that with drive and an indomitable spirit, life really can be magical.”
