Shaw’s Fish and Chips, on Barnsley Road, was the only restaurant to achieve the award in Barnsley from Fry Magazine.
The chippy was marked on more than 40 aspects of their business - following an unannounced visit - which included the quality of food and customer service.
With the pass mark set at a high 97 per cent, Shaw’s scored an impressive 98 per cent - the mystery diner praised the cleanliness of the venue, as well as the ‘excellent quality’ food and customer service.
Director Mike Shaw said: “As a family-run small business, started by my father in 1979, we have experienced many challenges over the years but these past 12 months have been the most challenging.
“We could not be more thrilled to achieve this award as it is a great reflection on all the hard work and commitment our family have put in, our unwavering drive to only buy the very best sustainable, quality fish, locally-grown spuds and of course the tremendous work the whole team have put in.
“We could not have achieved this award without our amazing team members and all the effort and pride they put into their work.
“We will all be celebrating this award.”
