CONSULTATION on the future of swathes of land in Carlton - which will bring 2,000 homes to the area - started this week.
It will run until July 28 and residents can view the proposals - and sign up to a live question and answer session - on Barnsley Council’s website.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Carlton’s new development will deliver a sustainable new community, focused around Wharncliffe Woodmoor as the key green space.
“It will provide high-quality housing within a pedestrian and cyclist-friendly environment and be linked to the surrounding outdoor spaces such as Carlton Marsh.
“The proposals also include land for business expansion, in an area where local businesses are currently thriving.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
