SCOUTS joined a community group on a huge litter-picking event as part of the ‘Great British Spring Clean’.

Silkstone’s CARE Group welcomed around 60 scouts as members took on the area around Silverwood Scout Camp, a known fly-tipping hotspot.

On Saturday, the group started at an area near the camp often used by BMX riders before heading into Silkstone Common, and the following day did the camp’s entrance and Silkstone.

CARE co-ordinator for Silkstone Common, Andrew Wilson, organised the pick - which saw 35 bags of litter collected.

“It’s a positive message of groups working together,” he said.

“It was nice to work with the scout groups for the first time and I’m sure we’ll do it again. We’re keen to get some of the older scouts involved.

“We’re trying to do all sorts of things around the village - not only maintaining it, but improving it.”

The pick was also supported by the Co-op Local Community Fund and Signs Xtra, which provided a free-of-charge banner.
