A VETERINARY nurse who stole £20,000 from her Mapplewell workplace will have to wait until October to find out if a ‘confiscation order’ to repay the funds will be made.
Melanie Beever, 50, of Rawmarsh, had worked at Greenside Vets for almost 30 years but started to take money from the firm between August 2012 and July 2016.
She was convicted of theft after a nine-day trial at Sheffield Crown Court, and was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment which is suspended for two years - she also has a nine-month curfew and will be electronically tagged.
Beever will have to wait until October where a hearing will take place to determine whether or not a confiscation order will be made for the funds she took.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
