MORE cameras will be installed on main routes across Barnsley to tackle crime, police in the town have confirmed.

South Yorkshire Police - alongside Barnsley Council - secured funding from the Safer Streets Fund for more devices with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to help stamp out vehicle-related crime.

A police spokesperson said: “Our ANPR team worked closely with the council to make sure all the main routes are covered.

“Officers have now joined forces with colleagues in Rotherham and Doncaster to submit a bid for the Dearne Valley.”
