THREE of Valerien Ismael's former backroom staff at Barnsley have followed the Frenchman to West Bromwich Albion.

Assistant coach Adam Murray, head of sports science, Jonny Northeast, and analyst Jack Riley have all left the club for the Hawthorns.

Murray, understood to have had a close relationship with Ismael, joined the club in 2018 as the Reds u18 manager, before working his way up to the first team the following year.

The 39-year-old took caretaker charge of the side on two occasions in 2019 and 2020.

A spokesperson for Barnsley FC said: “The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the trio for their work and wish them them luck for the future.

“All compensation received from the buyout of these contracts will be reinvested into the first team squad ahead of the approaching season.

“Further updates regarding Markus Schopp’s new backroom team will follow in due course.”

Ismael signed for West Brom last week with a compensation fee reported to be £2m agreed between the clubs.

Former Barnsley captain Alex Mowatt is also expected to be announced as a West Brom player imminently, having turned down a new contract with the Reds.
