Brad Collins saved an injury-time penalty as Barnsley beat Coventry City 1-0 in their first home game in front of fans without restrictions in almost 18 months.
Dominik Frieser opened the scoring with his first Oakwell goal just before the break.
Jordan Williams conceded a spot-kick in the second minute of injury-time but Collins sprang to his right to deny Viktor Gyokeres.
Coventry had more chances overall but Barnsley came out on top in the key moments in front of 13,961 fans, most of whom went home delighted.
Markus Schopp has kept the same starting 11 from last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Cardiff City.
Barnsley almost took the lead in the second minute when, after a fine move down the right involving Romal Palmer and Frieser, Carlton Morris played in Cauley Woodrow. A defender tackled the Reds captain but almost put the ball past his own goalkeeper Simon Moore who made a good close-range save.
A minute later, after a good move by the visitors down the same flank, Coventry's dangerman Callum O'Hare fired over the bar from the edge of the box.
Coventry then had the better of the first half and should have taken the lead.
After 20 minutes, Kyle MzFadzean headed over a right-wing Gustavo Hamer free-kick from close range. Six minutes later, Ian Maatsen's left-wing cross was volleyed at the back post by Viktor Gyokeres but it hit the crossbar.
Carlton Morris then had to go off injury, having collapsed to the ground with no other players around him on the attack. He tried to continue but had to walk down the tunnel and was replaced by Clarke Oduor.
The opener came in the 39th minute when Frieser ran onto a throughball by Palmer and was one-on-one with the goalkeeper before finding a fine finish from the right of the box into the bottom left corner. It was the first time Barnsley had scored in front of their fans at Oakwell in 541 days.
Coventry started the second half well and almost equalised in the 58th minute when, after a corner on the right, Michael Rose's header was nodded off the line by Woodrow.
Brad Collins then had to make his first save of the afternoon as he tipped over a free-kick by Gustavo Hamer midway through the second half.
The second half became scrappy, with referee John Busby booking eight Barnsley players. He then awarded a penalty against Williams for a trip on Jamie Allen on the right of the box but Collins saved to spark huge celebrations which continued after the final whistle.
