WORK to fix a wind turbine that broke in high winds more than five months ago has started.

In March, the blade of one of the turbines at Park Springs Wind Farm became dislodged and fell to the ground below, damaging the turbine.

No-one was injured in the incident but the turbine remained broken for months.

Coun Kevin Osborne petitioned for EDF Renewables - the owner of the turbine - to make repairs to the site, which remained closed in the months after the incident.

Now, it appears that work has begun to take down the damaged equipment.

“I have seen a crane picking up the debris around the base of the turbine,” said Coun Osborne. “This is great news as I know myself and local residents have been wanting repairs to be made for months now.

“I don’t understand why it has taken them so long to start working on it, and especially to pick up the debris in the field but I am happy that something is being done.

“All I want now is for EDF to make the results of their investigation public so that we know what can go wrong when approving any further wind turbine developments.”
