Barnsley have brought in Bayern Munich left-back Remy Vita on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The Reds got the deal done two minutes before the deadline of 11pm on Tuesday but had to wait almost two days for the paperwork to be approved on Thursday afternoon.

The 20-year-old Frenchman joined the German giants in October last year for a reported £1.35million from French side Troyes for whom he played five times in the French second division.

Vita played 25 times for Bayern’s second team last season in the third division, scoring twice.

Barnsley had been looking to bring in another left wing-back for most of the summer, with midfielder Callum Styles often used on the left and Ben Williams also an option.

Barnsley co-chairman Paul Conway told the club website said: “It’s no secret that as a club, we identify young, hungry individuals who both want to play for Barnsley FC and progress in the game.

“Rémy meets that criteria, and arrives at Oakwell with a determination to improve and provide quality on the left-side of Markus Schopp’s team. We are proud of the evolution of our club. It is significant that we can now sign players and are entrusted by two of the best clubs in world football, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

“We look forward to Rémy linking up with the rest of the squad following the international break.”
